While summer break sometimes doesn’t seem long enough, it can have real effects on athlete’s fitness level. It’s important to take time off, but losing all the progress swimmers made over the year isn’t great either. So, to make sure swimmers are ready to jump back in the water in September, our coaches have come up with some ways to stay fit over the break.
Why should I keep fit over Summer break?
While it can be hard, staying fit over the break has some amazing benefits! If athlete’s keep the fitness level they reached over the year, they will be able to focus on and improve new skills in the fall, instead of going back to the beginning and regaining the needed fitness level.
What should I do over the Summer?
Try out different activities or camps! Anything that keeps you active and moving can help with synchro!
Why not try:
- Swimming in pools or lakes
- Kayaking, Canoeing, and Paddle Boarding
It’s also important to keep your flexibility over the summer. Taking 15 minutes to stretch your splits while you read or watch TV can make all the difference.
Doing camps over the summer can also keep you fit and ready for synchro in the fall. Why not try a theater, gymnastics, or dance camp? Or maybe a good old artistic swimming camp!
